Maestro Raymond Leppard returns to the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center to celebrate the anniversary season, leading the Festival Orchestra in music of J.S. Bach, Handel, Mozart, and Domenico Cimarosa. The joyful exuberance of Bach?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 features faculty soloists Anne Reynolds, Jodi Sowers, and Dean Franke; soprano Kathleen Hacker and countertenor Steven Rickards present selections from Handel?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s "Rodelinda." Post-intermission ?¢‚Ǩ?ìshorts?¢‚Ǩ¬ù include American jazz with Harry Miedema and John Berners?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ ?¢‚Ǩ?ìTombeau C.P.E.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù performed by Tamara Thweatt. Our 2006 observance of Mozart?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s 250th birthday concludes as Richard Ratliff joins Maestro Leppard and the Festival Orchestra for the exhilarating E-flat Concerto, K. 449, from 1784.

Raymond Leppard talks with Paul Krasnovsky in a pre-concert session beginning at 7:00 p.m. Topics for discussion: Mozart at 250 and Mr. Leppard?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s recent travels.

Maestro Leppard, one of the most respected international conductors of our time, has appeared with nearly all of the world?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s leading orchestras in his five decades on the podium. Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, Mr. Leppard has conducted more than 170 recordings, earning five Grammy awards, a Grand Prix Mondial du Disque, and an Edison Prize. He has garnered international recognition as recipient of numerous honors including the Commander of the Order of the British Empire, the Indiana Governor?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Arts Award, and the title of Commendatore from the Italian government. He holds honorary degrees from the University of Indianapolis, Indiana University, Purdue University, Butler University, and Wabash College. As music director of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra from 1987-2001, Maestro Leppard led the ISO on two European tours to resounding acclaim. Recent travels have taken him to the orchestras of Warsaw, Budapest, Granada, the Scottish National Opera, Stuttgart Opera, and the Opera Theatre of St. Louis.
